Echos of the Sound: The Story of Hugo and the Southern Residents (Synopsis)

In 1968, a young orca named Hugo was torn from his family in Vaughn Bay and sold to an aquarium, forever altering his fate and that of his pod. "Echos of the Sound" chronicles Hugo’s heart-wrenching journey from the wild to captivity, revealing the deep emotional and ecological toll. Through rare footage and expert insights, the documentary tracks the evolving relationship between humans and orcas, from exploitative captures to the urgent fight to save the endangered Southern Resident population. This film challenges viewers to reflect on humanity’s responsibility and inspire action to protect these majestic creatures and their fragile ecosystems before it’s too late.
