Our 365-Day Swim for the Orcas

A year-long journey to raise awareness for the Southern Resident orcas
Our
Story
Our story began in the cold waters of the Puget Sound, where we grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the presence of orcas who call this place home.

After years of learning and filmmaking focused on these whales, we wanted to take our advocacy further, to do something that would embody the urgency of the crisis facing the Southern Resident orcas. With only 74 individuals remaining, their survival depends on the recovery of Chinook salmon, cleaner waters, and reduced vessel noise.

In October 2025, we launched Swim for the Southern Resident Orcas. A commitment to swim every single day for one year.

What the Campaign Is

The 365-Day Swim for the Orcas is more than a personal challenge, it’s a public awareness campaign designed to inspire community involvement and drive conservation action.

Every day, we document our swims and share short educational posts about the threats facing the Southern Residents, the importance of salmon restoration, and actionable ways individuals can make a difference.

Our Approach

Our project blends activism, education, and storytelling. Through consistency, we aim to show that small, steady actions can create momentum for real change.

Throughout the year, we partner with conservation groups, local organizations, and educators to host collaborative swims. These events bring people together to raise awareness, share knowledge, and celebrate collective commitment to protecting the Salish Sea.

Goals and Impact

Our goals are simple but powerful:

-
Raise awareness for the plight of the Southern Resident Orcas and the ecosystems they rely on
-
Highlight solutions through education, advocacy, and collaboration
-
Inspire everyday action that contributes to long-term conservation

This campaign is built on the belief that awareness leads to empathy, and empathy leads to change. Every conversation, every swim, and every shared post helps amplify the message that the orcas’ future depends on all of us.

Follow and Participate

We invite others to follow the journey, join a local swim, or take a symbolic dip wherever they are.
