We’re excited to share an update on our journey with Echos of the Sound. Our documentary has already been part of several festivals, including the San Pedro International Film Festival and the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, where it was nominated for an award. Most recently, we were honored to win Best Short Film in the online portion of the Friday Harbor Film Festival.
Looking ahead, we’re eagerly anticipating upcoming showings at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival and the New York International Women’s Festival. It’s been an exciting process, and we can’t wait to continue sharing Hugo’s story and raising awareness about the impact of the Southern Resident Orcas.
Friday Harbor Film Festival Highlights
Attending the Friday Harbor Film Festival was such a memorable experience for us. It was our first time visiting the San Juan Islands, and we were lucky enough to spot transient orcas during our trip, which was so special.
The festival itself was a chance to meet other filmmakers and engage with a supportive community. We took part in a filmmaker’s forum, attended a reception, and went to a gala, which all gave us opportunities to connect with industry professionals and fellow storytellers. The conversations we had were both meaningful and inspiring, and it was encouraging to meet so many people who share a passion for filmmaking and conservation.
What stood out most, though, was the feedback we received. Hearing how Echos of the Sound impacted viewers, and seeing their emotional responses, meant the world to us. It’s one thing to create a film you believe in, but to see it resonate with others in such a profound way was both humbling and rewarding. It reminded us why we felt compelled to tell Hugo’s story and the broader message of marine conservation.
Looking Forward
As Echos of the Sound heads to its next screenings at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival and the New York International Women’s Festival, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to continue the conversation about marine life and the plight of the Southern Resident Orcas. Every festival gives us a new chance to share Hugo’s legacy with a wider audience, and we’re eager to see how the film will connect with viewers in the months to come.
A Big Thank You!
We’re deeply thankful for all the support we've received along the way. Being part of these festivals has been an incredible experience, and we’re grateful for the connections, feedback, and opportunities that have come from it. We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing this journey with everyone who has been a part of it.
