Their debut documentary, Echos of the Sound, marks a defining moment in their journey as filmmakers. The film brings to light the powerful story of Hugo, an orca taken from Vaughn Bay in 1968 and forced into a life of captivity at the Miami Seaquarium. His untold story reflects the larger crisis facing today’s critically endangered Southern Resident Orcas, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts to ensure their survival.

Making Echos of the Sound was both a challenge and a labor of love. With limited resources, Emma and Annie borrowed equipment, learned documentary techniques, and interviewed knowledgeable advocates who shared their insights. Each obstacle fueled their determination to bring Hugo’s story to life, showing that advocacy and filmmaking can be powerful allies in the fight for a better world.

Through Echos of the Sound, Emma and Annie aim to do more than just inform—they seek to ignite a movement for change. They hope the film inspires viewers to take action, envisioning a future where native species thrive in their natural habitats, and future generations inherit a sustainable planet. For these young filmmakers, this documentary is not just a project; it’s a call to action for environmental stewardship.
